A falling tree limb destroyed the original cast iron Civil War soldier statue at Common Pleas Courthouse in Cape Girardeau. Now a new, durable version is standing sentry, thanks to Dexter artist Alan Gibson. The installation was made on Sept. 5, 2003.
Dexter artist Alan Gibson stood next to the Civil War soldier statue that he made with polyester resin and bronze to replace the cast iron statue atop the fountain at Common Pleas Courthouse Park in Cape Girardeau.
Alan Gibson, left, and Don McQuay attached straps to the Civil War soldier as Shannon Steger waited to lift the statue to the top of the fountain at Common Pleas Courthouse Park.
Alan Gibson directed the statue as Pee Wee Keys waited to assist with installation.
