Pupils at St. Mary’s Grade School in Cape Girardeau show their skills in Indian craft. Construction of a Pueblo Indian village, including animals, corn patches and “the works,” is underway by three pretty third grade lassies, from left: Pam Compas, Brenda Howe and Susan Smith. This photograph illustrating a daily scene in the cafeteria at Catholic High School shows the staff responsible for the food for the 150 pupils. From the left on inside of the serving counter are Miss Marilyn Schwartz, physical education department, who is helping out during the lunch hour; Mrs. George Schwartz, in charge of the kitchen; Mrs. Albert Buchheit, of the kitchen staff, and three pupils who assist during the serving period, Jean Spann, Jerry Glueck and Sallie Sterling. [Cape Girardeau Catholic High School opened in 1954. The name of the school was changed to Notre Dame High School in 1960. The Notre Dame Regional High School opened in 1998.]
