Ginnifer Goodwin plays a princess on TV and is fast becoming red carpet royalty for her style. She's my best dressed of the night in this embroidered Monique Lhuillier gown. The vintage vibe wouldn't work for everyone, but it suits Goodwin and her cropped cut perfectly.

I love Christina Hendricks, I really do. I love that she not only embraces her curves, but flaunts them. But in this dress, well, her cup runneth over. While the ruching and belt emphasize her hourglass figure, she's squeezed into the top. As my mom would say: She just needed one size larger.

Heidi Klum can rock the thigh-high slit better than anyone -- well, except maybe Angelina Jolie. She looks glam and confident in this Alexander Vauthier gown. I'm not wild about the color, but she's certainly showing Seal what he's missing.

Claire Danes won a best actress Emmy for her work in Homeland, but this baggy, mustard yellow dress isn't going to win any fashion accolades. I get she's pregnant, but she looks like she's going to a beach wedding not an award show. If the top wasn't so loose and droopy, the color wouldn't even bother me.

Hayden Panettiere stars in "Nashville," one of the most talked about new dramas this fall. But this dress looks like a reject from the "Cleopatra" portion of Lindsay Lohan's Elizabeth Taylor biopic. I think there's a pretty gold dress under all that blue tulle, but it's hard to tell. Definitely a case of less is more.

There is nothing good about Elisabeth Moss red carpet look. It looks like she wrapped herself in her grandma's sofa cover on the way out the door. Elisabeth's "Mad Men" alter ego, Peggy Olson, has better style than this. This is just really bad.

This is, by far, the best Tina Fey has ever looked on a red carpet. The dress, the hair, the accessories -- all perfection. Which begs the question: Why did she wait until the final season of "30 Rock" to show us she's got style?

Sorry, Lena Dunham, but you're my worst dressed. There's nothing sadder than a young actress -- the star of a show called "Girls" no less! -- wearing such a sad sack of a dress. Black lace, a high waist and boxy cut just add up to a dowdy look.

Jessica Pare is clearly the fashion MVP of the women of "Mad Men." She goes classic in black and white with simple accessories. I don't love her character, but I love this look.

That hair! Ashley Judd hit the red carpet in a nondescript gown -- the brooch is a nice touch -- and a bump Snooki would envy. Leave the big hair to your country music royalty mom and sister.

Nicole Kidman looks like the Hollywood A-lister she is in this white colum gown with blue beading. I wish the hem was about an inch longer, but that's nit picking. And, let's face it, she's got the best accessory of the night: hubby Keith Urban.

Maybe Kristen Wiig is going to the same beach wedding as Claire Danes. This gauzy dress simply isn't formal enough for the Emmy Awards. She also needs my grandma there telling her to stand up straight.

Va-va-voom! Sofia Vergara looks stunning in this sequined Zuhair Murad gown. She tends to favor a mermaid silhouette and bold colors and it's easy to see why.

When she's on the red carpet, January Jones does everything she can to make you forget her buttoned-up "Mad Men" alter ego. And this Zac Posen gown is far from her worst effort. But the slicked-back hair and the overly smoky eye just scream "trying too hard."

Emily VanCamp manages to look soft and ethereal and fashion-forward at the same time in this J. Mendel gown. And I love the bow-tie bracelet -- a nice whimsical touch.

Sigh...Melissa McCarthy. I think I would really like this gown for her -- in a different color. The wide belt, scoop neck and elbow-length sleeves are flattering. But it's just too close to Halloween to wear all that black and not risk witch comparisons. Fantastic clutch, though.

Padma Lakshmi was the clear winner of the citrus-colored gowns. This tangerine color suits her perfectly, and she keeps the hair and accessories simple. Best-dressed runner-up.

I don't get the floral trend this year. Julianna Margulies tries it in this ball gown that looks like a duvet cover. I just can't get on board.

Julianne Moore arguably had the most talked about look, but for all the wrong reasons. I will say of all the yellow dresses on the red carpet, I thought the shade of her dress suited her best. The problem is the dress is unflattering. The top half looks like it should be an undergarment and the skirt swallows her. And, if you read this story Friday,
http://www.semissourian.com/story/1896354.html, you know just how hot the red carpet can be, which makes the sleeves baffling.
