Cement trucks deliver their load by driving over the old bridge spanning the Mississippi River.
-
As one truck finishes dumping its load of cement another is backed into place to continue the process.
-
Dave Luther, construction inspector with the Missouri Department of Transportation, watches as fresh cement is dumped into a hopper to be funneled to a barge on the river below.
-
Sam Johnston, cement truck driver for Delta Concrete, operates controls on his truck regulating the flow of cement into the hopper.
-
A barge with hoppers full of wet cement are moved into position alongside the new Pier 4 foundation.
-
The hopper is then lifted via a crane above the formed in foundation. Workers then dump the concrete into the giant hole below.
-
Anchored deep into the bottom of the Mississippi River, the new pier will soon rise above the water taking its place in position with the others.
