This picture shows the original Normal School that was opened in 1874. The building was destroyed by fire in 1902. It was replaced by a new Academic Hall which opened in 1905.

The Gerber-Houck statuary collection from the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair was exhibited in Academic Hall from 1905 to 1959.

Dr. Frank Nickell, director of the Center for Regional History at Southeast Missouri State University, conducted a tour for alumni of the Academic Hall dome Oct. 29, 2005.
