Perhaps if you'd studied a bit more, you would have learned how to spell "benefits" or "sociology."

Rick: After being married for 50 yrs. I have never figured out my girlfriends way of thinking....maybe that's what keeps her interesting.

  • "Atheist, is that you??--"

I don't think so. Despite of couple of misspellings, the post is coherent, and Mr. Closeted would not have missed the opportunity to lambaste religious education. Theology (assuming he knows Theology degrees are offered) would have been at the top of his list.

Unless, of course, Mr. Closeted and Mr. Happy are two sides of the same coin.

Any degree is beneficial, and any degree is wasted, depending upon how you apply it. In the old days, college was designed to set the mind on the path of thinking, rather than telling people what to think.

There are "Great Books" colleges which focus on teaching those books that are considered the most important works written. Some would view that as worthless, as few will be able to get a job reading and reviewing classic books. But that is not the intent. A trade school teaches what you need to do a particular job. A university is supposed to be, as the term implies, universal in its educational offerings - to make the student a well-rounded person so they can find their own niche in the world.

But, to address the list: If you come out of college with a degree in Economics and $40,000 in debt, both you and the college have failed.

  • Maybe colleges and universities will soon be offering this as a major. Would this be a useless degree?

  • How about this fine example of a student with loans? Goes to St. Louis University, borrows $70,000 in loans in two years, moves to LA and gets in some movies and refuses to pay a dime on her loans? She calls those suing her for paying her loans "soulless"?

    Todays liberal democrat! "Where's mine"...

Sounds to me like a case of "White Privilege", pure and simple. Asking a poor black girl with a career and a degree to repay an honest debt. The nerve of those "souless" people.

Where is Al the Charlatan when you need him. This is obviously a case of blatant racism.

  • Either she pays the money back or let her earn it makng license plates. With her education she surely is qualified for that job.

Of course that job is demeaning for the class of people they accomodate in the "Big House" these days so they have probably stopped making license plates and farmed it out to China.

-- Posted by Have Wheels Will Travel - ΑΩ on Fri, Oct 30, 2015, at 12:14 PM
  • G.H. and Wheels - is there any better example of what today's "where's mine" crowd is capable of?

Can either of you EVER imagine borrowing $77,000 and just blowing it off or blaming soulless people who try and make you pay it back?

Another Obama "legacy"... took the loan program away from banks in 2009 and put into his hands. Like I've said before Obama, Pelosi and Reid couldn't run a candy store in a day care. But the socialist love them.

  • Maybe give her a Janitor's job at SLU and pay off her debt that way.

-- Posted by Have Wheels Will Travel - ΑΩ on Fri, Oct 30, 2015, at 1:25 PM
  • Bottom line. That debt will never be repaid and the government will turn a blind eye to it.

-- Posted by FreedomFadingFast on Fri, Oct 30, 2015, at 6:52 PM
  • Oops. My bad. It's a student loan guaranteed by the government. It'll be paid by the taxpayers, except for those smart enough to keep their money offshore and out of the hands of the tax and spenders in Wash DC.

It's "White Privilege"! We should be happy to donate to this, ah, um uhh, I am having a job describing this individual... but we should be happy to do it anyway.

That's an easy one to answer. The government gave it to them.

-- Posted by FreedomFadingFast on Mon, Nov 2, 2015, at 7:24 PM
  • All laws, ultimately, are enforced at the point of a gun. That's one reason for having no more laws than are absolutely needed.

There is a certain irony in the fact you can be shot for failing to wear a seatbelt -a law that supposedly exists "for your own safety".

-- Posted by Shapley Hunter on Mon, Nov 2, 2015, at 9:14 PM
  • Shapley, It is apparent you need to sign up for more education about how to think.... such as is offered by some of our great institutions.

You could do some community feel good work to pay for part of the tuition and become a community organizer. You would be free and clear at retirement age and if you're lucky with a book deal and payback for some lobbying you might be able to support the politicians that will hire your children and grandchildren to 6 figure government jobs that should have great benefits also.

  • I do not envy anyone for their education. I admire brilliant people and I despise "educated" fools.

One of the more brilliant people I knew, now deceased, had. a 7th grade education. Being the oldest in a large family, he had to drop out of school when his Father died to support his Mother and siblings. He was still propping up a couple of them well into adulthood. I suppose you could say he had multiple jobs like Theorist. He owned and operated a considerable number of businesses and was known for his fairness and generosity.

News today: "Antarctic ice growing, countering earlier studies"

"According to the new analysis of satellite data, the Antarctic ice sheet showed a net gain of 112 billion tons of ice a year from 1992 to 2001. That net gain slowed to 82 billion tons of ice per year between 2003 and 2008. The mass gain from the thickening of East Antarctica remained steady from 1992 to 2008 at 200 billion tons per year, while the ice losses from the coastal regions of West Antarctica and the Antarctic Peninsula increased by 65 billion tons per year."

  • "Mike Adams, a professor at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington is not your stereotypical left-wing teacher. On the heels of a report that showed that liberal arts professors overwhelmingly support Democrats, Adams' semester-opening statement to his students has gone viral.

"Here is what he said to his students:

"Welcome back to class, students! I am Mike Adams your criminology professor here at UNC-Wilmington. Before we get started with the course I need to address an issue that is causing problems here at UNCW and in higher education all across the country. I am talking about the growing minority of students who believe they have a right to be free from being offended. If we don't reverse this dangerous trend in our society there will soon be a majority of young people who will need to walk around in plastic bubble suits to protect them in the event that they come into contact with a dissenting viewpoint. That mentality is unworthy of an American. It's hardly worthy of a Frenchman.

"Let's get something straight right now. You have no right to be unoffended. You have a right to be offended with regularity. It is the price you pay for living in a free society. If you don't understand that you are confused and dangerously so. In part, I blame your high school teachers for failing to teach you basic civics before you got your diploma. Most of you went to the public high schools, which are a disaster. Don't tell me that offended you. I went to a public high school.

"Of course, your high school might not be the problem. It is entirely possible that the main reason why so many of you are confused about free speech is that piece of paper hanging on the wall right over there. Please turn your attention to that ridiculous document that is framed and hanging by the door. In fact, take a few minutes to read it before you leave class today. It is our campus speech code. It specifically says that there is a requirement that everyone must only engage in discourse that is "respectful." That assertion is as ludicrous as it is illegal. I plan to have that thing ripped down from every classroom on campus before I retire.

"One of my grandfathers served in World War I. My step-grandfather served in World War II. My sixth great grandfather enlisted in the American Revolution when he was only thirteen. These great men did not fight so we could simply relinquish our rights to the enemy within our borders. That enemy is the Marxists who run our public universities. If you are a Marxist and I just offended you, well, that's tough. I guess they don't make communists like they used to.

"Unbelievably, a student once complained to the Department chairwoman that my mention of God and a Creator was a violation of Separation of Church and State. Let me be as clear as I possibly can: If any of you actually think that my decision to paraphrase the Declaration of Independence in the course syllabus is unconstitutional then you suffer from severe intellectual hernia.

"Indeed, it takes hard work to become stupid enough to think the Declaration of Independence is unconstitutional. If you agree with the student who made that complaint then you are probably just an anti-religious zealot. Therefore, I am going to ask you to do exactly three things and do them in the exact order that I specify.

"First, get out of my class. You can fill out the drop slip over at James Hall. Just tell them you don't believe in true diversity and you want to be surrounded by people who agree with your twisted interpretation of the Constitution simply because they are the kind of people who will protect you from having your beliefs challenged or your feelings hurt.

"Second, withdraw from the university. If you find that you are actually relieved because you will no longer be in a class where your beliefs might be challenged then you aren't ready for college. Go get a job building houses so you can work with some illegal aliens who will help you gain a better appreciation of what this country has to offer.

"Finally, if this doesn't work then I would simply ask you to get the hell out of the country. The ever-growing thinned-skinned minority you have joined is simply ruining life in this once-great nation. Please move to some place like Cuba where you can enjoy the company of communists and get excellent health care. Just hop on a leaky boat and start paddling your way towards utopia. You will not be missed."

  • Mike Adams didn't miss anything, at least at first blush, I agree with his statements! Take your political correctness and put it where the sun doesn't shine!!!

Excellent article. Thanks. Cleary this guy has tenure - that is "hate speech" on many campuses.

Kinda like what I posted a week or so ago. At Mizzou a kid walking by the special "black homecoming" celebration yelled some alleged racists statements. The result?

Every faculty, staff and student member of the University must take diversity/sensitivity training.

    Absolutely ridiculous.
