    BC

Read the article and I think he nails it, government is not the way, rather they are in the way.

When he speaks of social cooperation, I think you have exactly that in a free enterprise situation.

A business is operated primarily for one purpose, to benefit the owner(s)/investor(s). That is why people risk their money and mortgage everything they have to start a business in many cases.

Before some of our leftist friends get their bowels in an uproar... there are secondary benefits. Those include the furnishing of jobs to the employees of the company, and the providing of goods and services to customers that they may need or desire.

But without that ever important first benefit, there will cease to be secondary benefits, sooner rather than later.

Now anyone that thinks government can step up to the plate and take the place of the primary beneficiary of a business, you might want to rethink your position. Government has no skin in the game as owner/investors do. Government is operating with money they confiscated from all of us and if or not they do an efficient and profitable job is immaterial.

  • The Us, as a whole, is facing the same problem, but not yet to the degree that Detroit is.

Just give them a little more time.

  • Regrets,

Detroit is a classic example of a socialistic failure propagated by the far left Democrats.

Throw money at it, until you can borrow no more. The single biggest reason the US is not in the same position... yet, they have a printing press and can keep turning out money, while devaluing what we already have.

  • Diss,

I remember Elmwood Park from back in the late 50's and early 60's. A minor version of Kinloch with dirt streets in places, a bar or two and some very poor but decent black folks for the most part. I worked in there numerous times before they turned the whole thing into an Industrial Park.

I am at a total blank on the chemical spill though. I was too busy at that time trying to keep the wolf away from the door. Hopefully we are going for a re-run of the Russel Bliss mess from a couple of decades back.

  • Diss,

Overland lies East of Lindbergh and North of and just a little south of page. Maybe 10 miles from me.

St. Charles has well water, they gave up on drinking muddy water out of the Missouri River years ago. I think St. Louis City area still takes their water from the Mississippi after we dump our excess sewage upstream. Some of the County may be on wells, never concerned myself with it a lot.

I also drank well water as a kid.

  • "The number of Americans who are 16 years or older and who have decided not to participate in the nation's labor force has pushed past 90,000,000 for the first time, according to data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics."

    Wow....Things are looking good.

  • But the unemployment rate dropped again. All those people who gave up don't count with this administration. But it is rather difficult to have a thriving economy when nearly half the population is not contributing.

  • The media reports today that 169,000 jobs were created and unemployment dropped to 7.3%.

The real numbers will be revealed in the revised reports later when no one's paying attention.

  • Three part time workers (working less than thirty hours a week) are roughly equivalent in hours to two full time workers (40+ hours week).

Perhaps this equivalency (along with the number of workers dropping out of the workforce) explains how the jobless rate can continue its downward trend in this economy.

  • Robert

Or another way to look at it. We take three workers and cut their hours by 25% or 10 hrs, and create another 30 bour job So we now have 4 people working 30 hours instead of 3 working 40. 4 x 30 = 120 hours and 3 x 40 = 120 hours. Is this perhaps Obama's share the wealth program and America is being pushed into it while thinking it is their idea to cut people to 30 hours to beat Obama Care. And Obama's rich friends don't get to share in the program, they go on footing the majority of the tax liability. Just wondering????
