Consider for a moment the people of the colonies and why they would be even remotely interested in becoming states and subjects of a central government.
I can't think of any that did so for the purpose of being subordinant to a federal authority. They did so for other reasons.
Anyone care to fill me in on those reasons? Perhaps there within we may find some answers.
