Speak Out: Hallows Eve ( A poem by the Great One.)

Posted by Egotistical_Bigot on Sat, Oct 31, 2009, at 4:57 PM:

Leaves crisp beneath my feet,

tussle as the chilly winds convene.

Bright bucolic colors of crimson, gold, and orange

burst the from the trees that they adorn.

Gruesome pumpkins decorate the roads

now ruled by goblins, ghouls, and ghosts.

Trick or treat? A frequent phrase

amid fog and mist and gloomy haze.

Owls hoot while werewolves yowl

stench of death and human bowel.

Horror looms as darkness nears

the shadows crafting terrible fears.

Candied corn to feed the dead

but the horseman, wants your head.

Haggled corpse and caustic reap

witch's nose, bats eerie peep,

spirits of course that can be seen

all attest its Halloween.

Happy Halloween you crazy political animals!

Yeah...I wrote it!

  • Halloween is mystical,

    Especially for the Egotistical,

    Hear ye, hear ye noblets,

    Raise your goblets,

    Toast the gigot,

    Better yet, roast the Bigot!

    Happy Halloween!

  • Megalo,

Never been big on poetry. But got to admit your submission kind of left me speechless.

Maybe you have missed your calling.

  • Wheels,

Poetry never paid much, unless of course I wanted to start writing Hallmark card jingles. ;o)

  • Lord A-mercy, Ego! A po-um! Will your hidden talents never cease to amaze the erudite few and confound the general population.

Told you once, I think in jest, you ought to write a novel. Hint, first consult "One Hundred Bestselling Plots" and you're on your way.

A quart of some potent adult beverage might be of some additional help also.

  • Megalo,

Good work! I wish that I would have known about this before I tried to read "The Raven" to the kiddies. Ol' Edgar is a bit too windy and gothic for the age group, and the youngsters were ready to trick or treat.

  • Very good Meglo.

  • Think a Mike Pinder (Moody Blues) voice reading. I think it's album ready! All we need is a mellotron.

  • Never interested in 60s and 70s rock.

The mellotron was tempermental and not very adaptable to road travel and jostling about.

Outside of that what does your post have to do with Ego's opus, unless you are going to set it to music. Pinder and mellotron don't seem a logical and practical approach. Otherwise, what is the connection?

  • Lump,

You could have come by. We had a little bon fire, roasted some hot dogs and marshmellows.

  • After Lump finished trick or treating with his kids he turned into a bag lady and got busy slappin the skins.

  • UH! You didn't invite me to the weiner roast!

Just one reason I miss having a fireplace, where we used to have a 'picnic' on the floor, roast weiners and marshmallows ... Was especially great during the 8-day power outage after the Big Ice Storm.

  • LOL. Guru, it was last minute. I had an hour or two of feeling good. Been paying for it all day, feel like I over exerted myself.
