  • No legitimate source given, of course.

  • I've seen the incident at least three times on TV.

    It happened... she said it.

  • I heard it, too, y'all ...

Thanks for the 'legitimate source,' WHY. I'm sure Friend appreciates the link.

  • A Tea Party leader acknowledged she supports abolishing Social Security in an appearance this week on "Larry King Live."St. Louis Tea Party co-founder Dana Loesch said she would "absolutely" eliminate the program, which has existed since 1935. Talk show host and Libertarian leader, Wayne Allyn Root agreed: "At best I'd do away with it, because I can find a better way to spend and save my own $15,000." This is what true Independents and Libertarians stand for...do away with all of those socialist programs. Let us invest our own money. Don't trust the government with my retirement.

  • Hey all i wanted was a legit source to go with the original comment.

This is one representative out of 435. You guys give them way too much credit. Get back to me when Maxine Waters shows up on a Missouri ballot - until then there's not a whole lot you can do about it.

  • Another great democrat stated she would like to take those big oil company profits. She was promoted to Secreatary of State.

Maybe Maxine is looking to move up.

  • Oh right, I'm a socialist anyway so I'm actually 100% fine with that idea.

Unfortunately for me I will never see a MO candidate ever supporting that idea so I'm just SOL.

  • Nobody knows what a Liberal thinks, but I have seen time and again when a Liberal has spelled out what a Conservative thinks and does.

I guess they are just gifted... don't you suppose?

  • Well the deficit spending is just Keynesian economics at work, which is just a different economic theoretical perspective than a more free market Milton Friedman style economics. We all know pure free markets don't always work, but the question is how much deficit spending is necessary to spur aggregate demand...

As for the taxes, perhaps if we didn't get into 2 unnecessary wars and give huge tax breaks to wealthy individuals in the early 2000's...we wouldn't be in such a precarious situation.

  • "Socialism does so well that it destroyed the USSR."

Or, a brutal authoritarian leader with no foresight for common sense planning and unchecked military spending within a communist command-economy system destroyed the USSR.

Don't forget, while Stalin's fields were laying fallow, our government was tossing billions of dollars at farmers at home while plugging three quarters of your tax dollars into tanks and planes. We called that patriotism.

Please, bring back the ideas of Mr. Keynes. Someone please show me how his ideas are any worse than anything Arthur Laffer or Greenspan have ever given us.

-- Posted by FriendO on Mon, Apr 5, 2010, at 5:41 PM
  • FriendO,

I think that Laffer and Greenspan are quintessential examples of Keynesian economists. Greenspan had much more power though.

Bernanke is a Friedmanian economist. Friedman on meth that is.

The economic theories of John Maynard Keynes are alive and well.

  • ...but Laffer & Greenspan are no friends to the workin' man like Keynes was.

Was it the CEO of AIG or Bear Stearns who had a portrait of Greenspan hanging in his office?

  • FriendO,

Here a quote by your "friend of the workin' man...

"Lenin was certainly right, there is no more positive, or subtle or surer means of destroying the existing basis of society than to debauch the currency.

By a continuing process of inflation, governments can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of the citizens.

The process engages all of the hidden forces of economics on the side of destruction, and does it in a manner that not one man in a million can diagnose."

    - John Maynard Keynes

NANCY PELOSI: Don't worry your pretty little heads about Health Care Reform. "It's like the back of the refrigerator. You see all these wires and the rest. All you need to know is, you open the door. The light goes on."

  • Blog,

Of course the engineers, technicians, and everyone else involved with designing, maintaining, or repairing said refrigerator need to know what the wires and the rest are.

  • non-biased

But unlike most government programs, most refrigerators work smoothly and seamlessly for years.

But then they were not designed by a committee with each member looking out for his/her own personal interests either.
