Speak Out: Speak Out 1-16-19

MLK speaker

The SEMO community should be aware that the University's annual MLK banquet is being headlined by a speaker, Marc Lamont Hill, so radical he was fired from his on-air role at CNN. He is a noted anti-Semite (and brother-in-arms of Louis Farrakhan) who has made thinly veiled references in speeches to the destruction of Israel. The theme of this year's banquet is "Building Community in an Hour of Chaos." I'm not sure Hill is qualified to speak on such a topic. College campuses are very liberal environments, but SEMO does us no favors by inviting such an inflammatory, divisive speaker to Cape Girardeau under the pretense of following Dr. King's dream.

Thank you

A big "THANK YOU" to Cleo Withers for finding my wallet at Lowes parking lot on Jan. 8 and taking it to the police station which immediately contacted me. Thanks to your kindness and honesty and the help of the Cape Girardeau Police Dept., it was returned to me. God Bless

Price increases

Thanks to all of the people who voted for the increase in minimum wage. Since Jan. 1, some local fast food restaurants have already raised prices to cover their increased labor costs. The majority of businesses will likely raise their prices this year, and every year the minimum wage increases. Business owners will not absorb these wage increases, so Missourians will have several years of rising prices on the majority of goods and services. The long-term effect of an artificially high minimum wage will be reduced hours, possible job loss, more automation, and higher prices.

Democrat agenda

Let's see, Democrats are against the wall, for gun control, pro-socialism and pro-abortion. Looks like four reasons to vote Republican.

Aquatic facility

I am so excited about an aquatic facility in Cape. I'm also pleased as punch that voter approval of the facility requires no tax increase. With a world class aquatic center, Cape will continue to make the progress necessary in order to maintain our reputation as a Midwestern city of our size with absolutely no equal.

MLK speaker: IMO, Mr. Hill and his radical views have no place at SEMO when there are plenty of other speakers available to speak of the peaceful themes of MLK.

Thank you: Good folks are among us let me add my thanks because it could happen to me and I hope that Mr. Withers would be the one that would find it.

Price increases: True, businesses will pass along any costs to their customers. Examples of cut back of employees are all of the auto checkout lanes at local discount stores and now the auto order taker at some fast food businesses.

Democrat agenda: Add tax and spend and giving Illegals welfare, free health care, and free education to that list.

    Vote Republican....America First.

Aquatic facility: Nothing is free somebody pays for your free stuff. What's wrong with the one that Cape has already.

And that's the way it should be according to Schaefer's World....Wednesday January 16, 2019.

  • Price increases: Minimum wage is legal discrimination. Went into a retail today that has been rearranged to eliminate two jobs.

    Old John.

You cannot legislate or vote yourself a wage increase without there being repercussions. Wage increases have to be earned to not cause a ripple effect on job losses and price increases. The ripple effect is a wave when you are the one losing your job.

  • You can not Legislate the poor from being poor by Legislations removing the Rights from the Free . There have always been jobs , it's a big wide world out there to do what you want and be what you want . Too many People live in their own little world , either too lazy or just waiting for Legislation to take Rights away from the Free . The world owes you nothing , it was here first .

This is the Land of the Free , be as Free as you can be . People need to stop blaming others and making excuses for their choices or actions , don't take the Free down with them ...

  • If the need for $5 billion dollars to stop the greatest threat to National Security , take it from FEMA . Better yet , cut Foreign Aid in half .

There is absolutely no reason for this fiasco and Political game to happen . This is America , we all work together for solutions , we are all Americans .

There are no problems , only solutions , just blaming each other is no solution , it's the problem .

GA. man arrested for plotting attack on White House

ATLANTA, GA (WALB) - Federal prosecutors said Wednesday that investigators have arrested a Georgia man they believe planned to attack the White House.

According to Byung J. “BJay” Pak, the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, federal agents believe Hasher Taheb, 21, of Cumming, planned to use explosives to attack the White House and other “targets of opportunity” in Washington.

D.C. Federal prosecutors said in a news conference Wednesday that they believe Taheb planned to use an improvised explosive device in his attack.

Taheb has been charged with attempting to damage by means of explosive any building owned or leased by the United States government.

Investigators said there are no threats for North Georgia or for the Super Bowl in Atlanta, which is set to happen in a couple of weeks.

Terrorism investigators said the investigation started after a tip from a community in Forsyth County.

The Joint Terrorism Task Force said the investigation is ongoing.

  • There seems to be no logic or reason in which federal government agency funds what. A front page story of this paper about local grown food for schools mentions funding from the department of defense.
