My forecast for next week: 0-14 inches of snow
Today's rain is still expected to change to snow later this evening, but with a temperature of 40°F at 3 PM, it's going to need to get colder in a hurry if any of the snow is going to stick.
A Winter Weather Advisory continues for Cape Girardeau with 1-3 inches of accumulation forecasted by the National Weather Service. Looking at the radar, we could see a brief burst of heavy snow this evening, but I'm not convinced that it's going to accumulate much.
Next week's system, Winter Storm "Disco Stu", is really difficult to get a handle on. The GFS computer model is predicting another big snow:
(Note that this model covers the next 120 hours, including tonight's snow.)
Cape Girardeau is likely to straddle the line between all snow (to the northwest) and all rain (to the southeast). If it remains cold enough for all snow, and the storm comes together perfectly, then we could have a monster snow on Monday that would surpass last week's windfall.
I'm not holding my breath, though. We could just as easily see mostly rain with no snow accumulation at all. AccuWeather.com mentions a chance for freezing rain Monday, but I'm going to pretend I didn't see that.
