Weather or Not
In this blog, weather junkies on the Southeast Missourian staff talk about (what else?) the weather. Give us your observations, folk wisdom and Farmers Almanac tales -- it's a weather free for all.
This weather chart looks rather ominous

Here it comes: Rain is expected to continue off and on for at least the next week. This forecast chart from the National Weather Service shows the amount of rain expected to fall over the next 5 days:
Cape Girardeau is shown in the 5-6 inch range, very close to the 7-8 inch bullseye.
I haven't seen these colors since last March. In the days leading up to last year's Mother of All Rainstorms, the computer models were cranking out huge rainfall forecasts in the 6+ inch range -- only slightly more than they are now.
Could we see a repeat performance? Unlike last year, the coming rains will likely be spread out over several days, so it's doubtful we would see anything like last March's record-shattering 13.5 inches within 36 hours. But it's safe to say that things are going to be very soggy.
Meanwhile, the Mississippi River is poised to hit flood stage yet again this year, with the latest forecasts now projecting the river level to jump to almost 37 feet ("moderate flooding") at Cape by the middle of next week.
