Weather or Not
In this blog, weather junkies on the Southeast Missourian staff talk about (what else?) the weather. Give us your observations, folk wisdom and Farmers Almanac tales -- it's a weather free for all.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued; storms approaching from two directions
Posted Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at 11:08 AM
Today is bringing a very peculiar weather situation as two blobs of storms are rapidly approaching Southeast Missouri from the west and the north.
As I write this, the storms to the west have triggered several severe thunderstorm warnings in South Central Missouri, including reports of wind damage near Mansfield, Ava, Summersville, and Willow Springs.
Meanwhile, a long line of storms from St. Louis to Indiana is sagging southward in our direction. That puts us right in the crosshairs.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has just been issued for Southeast Missouri and neighboring states through 5 PM. The watch summary explains that the potential exists "for a few swaths of damaging wind... and a tornado or two."
