More crazy weather on the way
Although we will likely climb above freezing Wednesday afternoon for a short time, our snowpack will be sticking around for a few more days at least.
Warmer weather is on the horizon, but "warmer" is a relative term. Our next big storm -- arriving late in the weekend -- will bring milder air, but it could still be cold enough for a wintry mix. Temperatures during the day Sunday and Monday should be well above freezing (low 40s) but the lows at night could put us in the snow zone.
The current forecast for Cape Girardeau is not encouraging:
Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 33. East wind around 6 mph.
Saturday Night: A slight chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. East wind around 6 mph.
Sunday: Rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 42. East southeast wind 3 to 5 mph.
Sunday Night: Rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 32. Light and variable wind becoming north around 5 mph after midnight.
Monday: Rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 42. North northeast wind around 7 mph.
The Hazardous Weather Outlook from Paducah states, "Another wintry chance of precipitation is forecast for the Sunday night through Tuesday time frame...But it is still too far out to forecast reliable accumulations."
I suspect this will be more of a rainmaker than a snowmaker, but that could change in a hurry.
