Get ready for everybody's least favorite type of precip
So much for the chance of a decent snowfall on Sunday. Just like previous storms, our big weathermaker on Sunday is now poised to deliver mostly freezing rain and/or sleet. Just lovely.
In a message sent to the storm spotters mailing list this afternoon, the National Weather Service in Paducah summarized the situation: "If we had to pick an order of concern, it would be ice, then sleet, then the least likely impact precip type, snowfall. Although the forecasters don't have much confidence in pinning down the exact precipitation types, it does appear likely that we will see significant amounts of something. The storm is projected to drop 1+ inch of liquid equivalent precip, which is enough to cause plenty of trouble no matter what wintry form it takes.
I'm resisting the temptation to post a bunch of computer model graphics showing an Icepocalypse or Sleetoclysm. As we've seen before, the models have difficulty with these borderline storms where even the slightest change in temperature can make a huge difference in the outcome.
Nevertheless, these difficult systems are where the Dartboard Forecast System really shines. Here's the latest forecast wild guess:
