Mark your calendars: It's the first appearance of the "S" word
Yes, that's right, the "S" word -- snow -- has graced today's official National Weather Service forecast for the first time this season.
The forecast for next week includes this line:
TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY: PARTLY CLOUDY. A 20 PERCENT CHANCE OF RAIN AND SNOW. LOWS IN THE LOWER 30S. HIGHS IN THE LOWER 40S.
In this afternoon's discussion, the forecasters at Paducah mention that two major computer models (GFS and ECMWF) are hinting at wintry precipitation Tuesday, although the GFS is more bullish on the prospect.
The discussion states, "BOTH MODELS ARE CONSISTENT ENOUGH IN TEMPERATURE PROFILES THAT A MIX OF WINTRY PRECIPITATION CANNOT BE IGNORED AT THIS TIME, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE DEPTH OF THE COLD AIR MOVING SOUTH THROUGH THE REGION."
Even if the air is cold enough, however, the system next week is projected to only bring meager precipitation, so it shouldn't be a big deal.
