Rain keeps falling; Mississippi keeps rising
The Mississippi River has slipped above flood stage again, and is expected to reach major flood stage next week. According to the latest flood statement from the National Weather Service, the projected crest at Cape Girardeau will reach "near 43.0 feet by Saturday morning, June 8th."
Meanwhile, we're expected to see heavy rain over the next two days, with more rain possible late next week. It appears that we will see two rounds of storms to end the week: late tonight and again Saturday night. The computer models are cranking out 1.5 to 3 inches:
More rain is on the horizon for next week. All taken together, we are in line for 3-4 inches of rain over the next seven days.
The threat of severe weather is also possible tonight and Saturday. We're presently under a Slight Risk for both periods, with the best chance on Saturday. We're right in the bullseye:
As I write this, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a PDS (Particularly Dangerous Situation) Tornado Watch for central Oklahoma until midnight. I'm sure everybody over there is just thrilled about that (except for suicidal tornado chasers).
