Spring is still on hiatus
Our chance of snow for tonight has apparently evaporated, with the storm tracking well to the west and south. In a twist, the Memphis area is expecting around 2 inches, while even extreme northern Mississippi and Alabama could see snow. We probably won't see a single snowflake.
However, the next system for this weekend into Monday could bring snow. Most of the precipitation is forecast as rain, but temperatures could drop enough Saturday night for snow to reach the ground (won't stick) and Sunday night (might stick).
The GFS computer model is forecasting 2 inches of accumulation in Cape Girardeau County over the next 5 days, but I'm rather skeptical at this point.
Meanwhile, the long range projections show cold temperatures continuing through at least the end of March. The 6-10 day forecast map shows that we have a 90%+ chance of below-average temperatures, a level of confidence that is rarely seen in these charts.
The 8-14 day map isn't as extreme, but still leans toward colder weather.
Unlike last year, when spring came unusually early, we'll have to wait this year for nicer weather.
