Here we go again (another Flash Flood Watch)

Posted Thursday, March 3, 2011, at 5:18 PM

Our next storm system is on its way, poised to bring heavy rain tomorrow and Saturday. The weather service has already issued a Flash Flood Watch for Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Here are the rainfall totals projected by the national Hydrometeorological Prediction Center over the next three days:

We will likely see widespread 1.5 to 3 inch totals. Right now, we are still 1.4 inches of rainfall below average for the year, but that deficit could easily be wiped out in the next couple days.

Meanwhile, yet another system is already forecast to arrive with more thunderstorms and heavy rain next Tuesday and Wednesday. This one may put us well above average for the year.

In light of this merry-go-round of strong storm systems, perhaps we should start giving them names? This time, I'd suggest naming the storms after troubled celebrities. How does Severe Thunderstorm "Charlie Sheen" sound? Or Flash Flood "Lindsay Lohan"?

Yes! I like it. Take that "troubled celebrity" idea and run with it.

Also, just think, you would never run out of names. The list goes on and on.

You just might be onto something, there! And, "Phat" is right---you'd NEVER run-out!

But just let us know at least 24-hours in advance of a 100%-chance of a "Charlie Sheen", so that we can all "get outta Dodge" before it hits!

(As for "Storm Ozzy"? Well, he's just---Ozzy! I can deal with that, never know where he'll pop-up! But a "Charlie Sheen"? That one'll be both dangerous AND predictable---SCARY, ain't it?☺)
