Weather or Not
In this blog, weather junkies on the Southeast Missourian staff talk about (what else?) the weather. Give us your observations, folk wisdom and Farmers Almanac tales -- it's a weather free for all.
Excessive Heat Warning issued
Posted Monday, August 2, 2010, at 10:42 AM
Update 4 PM Monday:
As expected, the watch has been upgraded to a warning.
Previous blog from 10:45 AM:
Three words I didn't want to see this summer: Excessive Heat Watch. We've had plenty of Heat Advisories, but the Excessive Heat Watch -- which will undoubtedly become an Excessive Heat Warning -- is another beast entirely. The official forecast at Cape Girardeau calls for a high of 100°F tomorrow with a peak heat index of 112°F.
If it's any consolation, areas to the south will be even hotter, with a 117°F heat index projected for Jonesboro, Arkansas:
The heat will continue into Wednesday over a massive part of the country. Northern Maine is looking nice right about now.
A "cold" front may reach us by the end of the week, dropping temperatures a few degrees. Maybe.
