Swan Initiated as a Distinguished Member of Sigma Alpha Iota
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. --Rep. Kathryn Swan, (R-Cape Girardeau) was recently initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Delta Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota at Southeast Missouri State University. Founded in 1903, Sigma Alpha Iota is an International Music Fraternity promoting interaction among those who share a commitment to music creation, performance and scholarship.
Due to Swan's legislative efforts supporting the music therapy profession, she was nominated and accepted for membership in the fraternity. Swan sponsored a House Concurrent Resolution during the past two legislative sessions recognizing music therapy as a valid healthcare service and has pre-filed a bill (HB 189) for the upcoming session that would establish licensure requirements for music therapists.
As a musician herself, Swan acknowledges the contributions of music in our lives, "Music puts joy in our hearts and rhythm in our feet; it lifts our voices in song and our souls in prayer; it relieves physical pain and emotional suffering; and it facilitates communication with children who struggle with emotional disturbances. I am humbled and greatly honored to be invited to join others in supporting the art of music."
Swan was nominated by Raven Lanier, a senior at the university pursuing a degree in political science. Lanier served as an intern in the Missouri House of Representatives during the 2014 Regular Session.
