Boards complete Administrative Rule on Swan's APRN/Telehealth Legislation
Many thanks to the Missouri State Board of Nursing and the Board of Healing Arts for completing and approving the administrative rule this week regarding my nursing/telehealth legislation. During the 2013 legislative session, my bill language was amended onto another health-related bill that was passed and signed by the Governor.
The law eliminates the geographic mileage restriction in designated areas of our state, allowing nurse practitioners to provide healthcare through the use of telehealth (electronic communication). These more rural areas are federally identified as having a shortage of health professionals.
The use of electronic technology as a communication tool between the nurse practitioner and the collaborating physician will ensure that Missourians living in these areas will now have a much greater access to healthcare.
