Mother's Day is fast approaching, and I'm that guy who is waiting until the last minute to find something nice for my mom (and mom-in-law). But this year, I have another mother to think about ... my wife.
Our daughter Charlotte is about a month and a half into her life, and already I've started to get why people tell me "congratulations" and "say goodbye to your pre-baby behavior" in the same breath.
But honestly, so far my wife has carried the majority of the load. While I'm here at the Missourian office all day writing about things like music and art, she's at home changing diapers and feeding the little cutie. And, because I'm currently on crutches with a semi-serious foot injury, I'm not much help with things when I am home (but I do try, nonetheless).
Here's the heartwarming part: not only does she not mind the huge responsibility, she relishes every second she gets with Charlotte.
I asked my wife recently what she wanted for Mother's day, and she replied, "I haven't really thought about it yet as a day for me."
But it is a day for her, the first of many.
So enjoy the weekend, and check out this week's SE Live for Mother's Day ideas from Flourish.
On a more solemn note, it was sad to hear of the passing of Beastie Boys co-founder Adam "MCA" Yauch. He was, in my view, an extremely talented artist and charitable person. In his honor, I will continue to fight for my right to party.
