Lichtenegger has key role on House Health Insurance CommitteePosted Monday, January 21, 2013, at 1:57 PM
State Rep. Donna Lichtenegger, R-Jackson, was recently named by Missouri House Speaker Tim Jones as committee vice chair for the House's Committee on Health Insurance.
The committee is expected to play a key role in attempts of legislators to pass bills that would expand the state's Medicaid program -- a requirement of the Affordable Care Act.
Lichtenegger said in a release on her appointment to the committee she will "work tirelessly to thwart the negative impacts of both" the expansion and the federal health care law.
Many Republicans in the General Assembly staunchly oppose the expansion of Medicaid because they fear federal Medicaid dollars won't adequately cover the cost to the state.
Gov. Jay Nixon was in Poplar Bluff, Mo., last week to promote expansion of Medicaid, which he supports because he said it will reduce the number of uninsured residents and create jobs in the health care sector.
