TAXPAYER INEQUALITY. "No Justice. No Taxes."
I think it's fair to say Americans are sick of being lectured on the epidemic of inequalities in the United States--income inequality--gender inequality--education inequality--social inequality--opportunity inequality--racial inequality--and on and on. If you Google "inequality in America", you get over 40 million results! My head is going to explode! Why do we live in such a horrible country?
Okay, my progressive-liberal friends, let's pretend you really believe in tolerance, inclusiveness, and equality. Before you curse me and leave my blog, do me a favor. Close your eyes and just pretend I'm actually a pro-choice, climate-change worshipping, transgender, Guatemalan refugee, just looking to find my place in this colonial power you call America. Okay, thank you. Now let's talk about TAXPAYER INEQUALITY. This could be your next great progressive movement.
If the average American citizen fails to pay his or her taxes, or incorrectly fill out their tax returns, the IRS will penalize them with fines, possible tax liens, and even imprisonment.
When I was much younger, I once had an IRS tax lien put on my home over a tax dispute of less than two-thousand dollars. After my audit, I agreed to make monthly payments, but the IRS made sure it would cost me in legal fees, penalties, and a negative credit report. But I understood. That's the law. Unfortunately, the tax laws are not enforced EQUALLY, for all American workers.
Let's look at some facts. According to our government's own data, the latest being from 2011, there were 311, 536 federal employees who had not paid their past due taxes. They now owe the IRS a whopping $3.5 BILLION dollars. And recently, the IRS chief, John Koskinen, complained his budget was cut this year by $347 million, and warned that tax refund checks may be delayed for the American taxpayers because of this. Why not--FIRST-- collect the $3.5 billion owed by federal workers? GEEEEEEZ!
According to a report by the Inspector General of the Treasury Department, the IRS--who loves to come after us--handed out $2.8 million in bonuses to IRS employees with disciplinary problems, including more than $1 million to employees who didn't even pay their federal taxes.
Bills have been introduced in the House and Senate to fire federal employees with seriously delinquent taxes, but so far---nothing has passed. They just seem to die "in committee." Maybe, you, as a taxpayer, should put a note on your tax return this year that says, "Sorry, I didn't include a check for my taxes, but my husband and I remain "in committee", and we haven't had a procedural vote yet to determine when we can pay."
Now, thanks to President Obama's executive action on amnesty, if you're an illegal immigrant reading this blog (sorry, I forgot--should have said-- undocumented worker), then you can relax. You don't have to worry about tax inequality.
If you're one of four million undocumented workers included in Obama's new executive action, you're well taken care of. Once you receive a social security number, you can apply for tax refunds and the Earned Income Tax Credits.
According to the IRS's own website, if you're an individual, you can receive $500 to $600. But, if you're a non-citizen filer with three or more "qualifying children", you can receive a check for up to $6,100. Plus, millions of you will be eligible to even file for back-refunds for past years, as long as you can demonstrate your off-the-books income.
This past week, IRS Commissioner, John Koskinen, when asked about these loopholes for undocumented workers, told members of Congress these new rules caught the IRS totally by surprise. He said, "It turns out there was a lack of clarity about that."
Even Illinois Congressman, Luis Gutierrez, a member of the Hispanic Caucus, told The Daily Caller that he was unaware that illegal immigrants could receive tax refund checks--even if they've never paid taxes.
So, my liberal-progressive friends, where is the taxpayer equality for honest American citizens who work hard and pay their taxes every year, while government workers get a pass, and illegal immigrants get free money and benefits--all paid for by American citizens?
I suggest we start promoting true TAXPAYER EQUALITY! Maybe Al Sharpton could lead this new national movement. "No Justice! No Taxes! Or maybe, "Taxpayer Lives Matter, Too!" Oh wait. We'll have to find someone else to lead our cause. I forgot. According to the New York Times, Al Sharpton owes the IRS over $4 million in state and federal back taxes.
