UK's David Cameron Schools President Obama on Leadership
I watched the UK's Prime Minister, David Cameron, address his nation this morning with a passion and conviction that President Obama failed to use in his lackluster speech yesterday. Obama's news briefing was followed by carefully worded mini-lectures with reporters, as he answered questions with long, boring monologues.
David Cameron left no doubt where he stands on ISIS and the threat of global terrorism. While UK's Prime Minister is raising threat levels, President Obama is raising money at another fundraiser for Democrats--to fight his number one enemy--the Republicans.
Cameron was not afraid to use strong, politically incorrect language in addressing the threat of "Islamic radicalism." The Prime Minister said in part, "We cannot appease this ideology. We are stopping suspects from traveling by seizing passports. We're barring foreign nationals from re-entering the UK. We're depriving people of citizenship and we are legislating so we can prosecute people for all terrorist activity.....Britain is an open, tolerant and free nation, but we cannot stand by and allow our openness to be confused with a tolerance of extremism......poisonous Islamic extremism is causing widespread problems."
The takeaway from President Obama's speech---we have no strategy yet. Let's not put the cart before the horse. His demeanor was almost as though he's getting frustrated with having to deal with problems outside our borders--such as terrorism and Russian aggression.
President Obama would much prefer using his time and energy to attack his political opponents. You want to raise the hair on his neck and hear a passionate speech? Give him a teleprompter and an audience and he'll talk robustly for hours on climate change and immigration reform, and how he will unilaterally use his executive authority to bypass Congress.
Truthfully, Obama sees Putin, terrorism, and Republicans through the same prism. They're all adversaries and temporary roadblocks in his quest to fundamentally transform America.
