  • I need to scan the old photo and send it along, that being all of the locomotives lined up on the original Thebes bridge to "test", back in the early 1900's, my grandfather is sitting on the front of one of the engines, since he was working for the Cotton Belt at the time, great story, James, I'll try to copy and post the old picture soon, regards to Cape and SEMO, kkr

  • James,

Thanks for jogging my memory. I've shot photos of the bridge over the years. Two of them show the bridge in the background of downtown Thebes as it looks today and how it was in 1966.

  • Was e-mailed this from a friend in Omaha re UP steam train: "Well, the latest rumor I am hearing through the railfan grapevine is that UP has gotten permission from BNSF to use their track from Rockview to Cape Girardeau. That would probably mean pulling around the connection toward Chaffee, then either backing up or being pulled backwards by a BNSF diesel up to Cape Girardeau for display, then reverse the procedure afterwards. We'll have to see if this indeed is fact or if it is simply wishful thinking and rumor mongering. If it's true, it will certainly be an unusual event."
