My Mom, Step-Grandmother and her twin sister spend the final years of their lives at The Baptist Home which is located very near to these shut-ins. This was the main reason for taking this route. I can attest to the fact that this area is one of Missouri's more beautiful places.... Thanks for sharing it with us. Very interesting. With all the mild, relatively dry weather this winter there have been good opportunities to go on hikes such as yours without all the heat and humidity, mosquitoes, and dense weeds and foliage that are a pain in summer. On the flip-side, one has to carefully plan to get finished before dark and be prepared for unexpected changes in the weather. Take a flashlight and all-weather clothing even if you don't think you need... It is a popular destination and some of Missouri's best scenery. The trail in mostly maintained by volunteers from the Ozark Trail Association. They are the same ones who constructed new trails in Johnson Shut-Ins State Park after the massive deluge from Ameren Electric's mountaintop reservoir flooded and wiped out the state park. A catastrophe that could have killed thousands of... It's only value is scenery. It can be an unimproved state park, or another natural area. Tourists and recreationalists look for state parks. The land might be the same, but when it is called a state park it is recognized. If you dig into the local politicians history, you will find he has did little to benefit the constituents of his district. Does he not have more useful things to do than campaigning against a politician who is no longer in... Then Jay Nixon should be invited to move out of the Show-Me State to where-ever !!!! How does the DNR have a windfall of cash when there are so many more important issues being cut for lack of Funds . It's a Government land grab . Why not name it the Rip Off State Park . You know, like build a highway into that wilderness which would be very expenive ! ! ! Thu, 09 Feb 2017 16:05:17 -0600
