  • I left town a week too soon to be able to climb The Rock. The last time I made it was in 2003 when my brother and I climbed it with his bicycle (he had this thing about having his photo taken hoisting it over his head after a long ride).

Here are some shots taken over the years, including the remains of the quarry south of the Tower.

Here's a video of geocachers going to The Rock in kayaks before the water got low enough to walk out.

While you're in the area, stop by the Altenburg museum. They're open seven days a week and have the cleanest bathrooms you'll find anywhere. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

  • Sorry, but you are over 200 years too late in your naming the rock south of Tower Rock as "Tower Rock Mini Me." Meriwether Lewis referred to it as the "Sugarloaf Point" on November 26, 1803 when he and William Clark visited and mapped the ageless rock icon on their jouney up the Mississippi prior to their historic expedition to find the fabled Northwest Passage.

  • I'm glad we went to Tower Rock last weekend. It's an incredible place to visit.

That "monsoon" could be rain moving into the area from the remains of Hurricane Isaac.

Thanks James for the blog entry.
