  • Unfortunately, this will probably not be the case in our region of Stoddard County. My unofficial sources tell me that a crowd of on-lookers, waiting at the train crossing in downtown Dexter, were in a murderous mood, when they discovered that the No. 844 was stopping at the new station two miles north of Dexter--back in the boondocks. There would be no high-profile stop within the city.

As for me, I think I HEARD the train off in the distance, as it went through Bell City--but there was no getting there in time to see it.

I'm glad to hear that you saw it, James, and got such an incredible shot!

  • I enjoy your pictures and blog as I have been busy, and I didn't have a chance to view the old "klinker chucker". FYI, the brakeman you pictured is probably the conductor. Keep up the good work.

  • Hugh: You can't see it in the picture, but he was wearing a hat that said "BRAKEMAN."

  • Now, now, boys--let's not quibble over technicalities... We all like trains...so that should be enough!
