Moving to Cape by Marie Gladue en-us Drive-Thru Mania Call me deprived but prior to moving to Southeast Missouri, my only experience with a drive-thru was fast food AND not all fast food operations had a drive-thru. In California, unbelievably, we get out of our cars for almost everything. Someone might take our car and park it for us but we are definitely doing the work of fetching what we need. This may have to deal with the ozone level and the degree of smog we have. It is bad enough with cars idling on the freeway during rush hour, let alone... Wed, 15 Feb 2012 20:23:16 -0600 Feeling Sick? In honor of the whopper head cold I have today, I am dedicating this blog to being sick in Cape. Today's blog deals with basic aspects of "being sick". Future blogs will delve into the myriad of healthcare choices available to local residents. Getting sick for the first time in a new place can be a double whammy. First, you are sick, presumably not something you have on your bucket list. Second, you are a little disoriented as far as what to do about it. Your "usual" tricks might involve... Wed, 08 Feb 2012 12:23:44 -0600 Become a Reading Gourmet at the Cape Library! I love the internet and television (particularly my beloved Law and Order) to the point that I can lose vats of time in eye-to-monitor contact. This condition is so bad, it would be hard to imagine the latent voracious reader "simmering" ( Wed, 01 Feb 2012 10:31:23 -0600 Osage Centre It is winter, post holiday festivities, and your treadmill or Wii Fit are not doing the trick. What indoor options are available to you that won't break the bank? On my end of town, (northern), I have discovered the Osage Centre. The Osage Centre is located at 1625 N. Kingshighway, across the street from Rhodes 101, and at the corner of Kingshighway and Mount Auburn. The Osage Centre is owned by the City of Cape and is a multi-purpose facility. I was most familiar with the Osage for... I am the type of person who is okay with snow in November and December but when January comes around, I just want to think spring and summer. And though we need to navigate our wintry mix months still, it does not mean that you can't get ready for the weather that spring brings. . . another southeast Missouri euphemism. . . unstable weather. It sounds somewhat benign. .... Wed, 18 Jan 2012 07:05:00 -0600 Dress for Success in Wintry Mix When I was a kid, I spent my summers at the Jersey Shore. There were season people, weekend people, and then there were the "shoobies". . . day trippers who pack their lunches in shoeboxes and wear shoes or socks with sandals on the beach. In the shore caste system, you did not want to be in the last category. . . decidedly uncool. I bring this up because I am about to tell you how to dress for the elements, particularly wintry mix, in Cape. I tell you these things from experience or what... Wed, 11 Jan 2012 01:51:22 -0600 Wintry Mix We moved to Cape in the summer of 2010 from Los Angeles, California. Living in Cape, as you might expect, is different though in many refreshing ways. This blog is dedicated to making the transition. With our active local industries, it is not uncommon for employers to search beyond Southeast Missouri for talent and it is my hope, this guide will help others... Wed, 04 Jan 2012 10:34:51 -0600
