Cape's Talbots to close next year

Talbots, 201 S Mount Auburn Road, in Cape Girardeau, will close its doors in early January. The specialty retailer of women's apparel, shoes and accessories opened in Cape Girardeau in 2006.

Currently, all merchandise is 25 percent off. Approximately 83 Talbots stores are expected to close in fiscal 2011, according to a company news release.

The company, located in Hingham, Mass., has closed 15 stores in the first six months of this fiscal year. Approximately 25 stores are planned for closure in fiscal 2012 and approximately two stores are planned to close in fiscal 2013.

According to its second quarter financial statements, the company's loss from continuing operations was $37.4 million, or $0.54 per share, compared to last year's income from continuing operations of $0.5 million or $0.01 per share.
