A plan to subdivide the site of the proposed Menards development was approved this week by the Cape Girardeau City Council
The 22-acre site at the corner of Siemers Drive and Bloomfield Road, owned by RAD Management, LLC, will be split into three lots.
The Menards store will be built on the largest lot, a 16.3-acre site in the center of the property, according to plans filed with the city. Two smaller lots will be split off. There will be a 1.3-acre lot of the west end of the property and a 2-acre lot on the southeast corner of the property.
Menards is the nation's third-largest home improvement retailer.
Plans for the $8 million development include a 162,340-square-foot retail store, outdoor garden center and lumber warehouse building.
A family-owned company started in 1960, Menards operates more than 250 home improvement stores in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming, according to its website, http://www.menards.com/main/home.html.
