Make way for MenardsPosted Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at 11:36 AM
The nation's third largest home improvement retailer, Menards, has filed a preliminary site plan at Cape Girardeau City Hall.
The 16-acre development will be at the southwest corner of Siemers Drive and Bloomfield Road.
According to Ken Eftink, assistant city manager, developers intend to employ 150 people, including 60 to 70 full-time.
The city's board of adjustments will review plans for the project, which includes a 152,000 square-foot building, on March 3.
Developers are requesting exceptions from the existing zoning regulations for signage and fencing on the property.
Menards operates 286 stores in 13 states, however, the Cape Girardeau location will be one of its southern-most stores. There is a Menards in Marion, Ill.
