This year is the 50th anniversary of the Town Plaza Shopping Center.
I've been looking through the Southeast Missourian's archives researching for a story for Friday's edition.
Some of the Town Plaza's early stores included a Kroger grocery store, Gambles, The Woolworth Company, Tower Loan Company, Scott's Shoe Store and W.T. Grant Company. It also had a cafeteria and a barber shop.
Through the years many stores have come and gone.
Garber's Mens Wear is the only store that was in Town Plaza in 1960 and is still there today. During October, they're holding a 50th anniversary celebration with several specials, door prizes and giveaways worth $8,000.
What stores do you remember visiting through the years in the Town Plaza?
As a child growing up here, my favorite store in the Town Plaza was the Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Shop. I remember standing on my tip-toes to see inside the freezer cases to pick my flavor. I always had to have it in a sugar cone.
I'd love to hear about your Town Plaza memories! Post a comment and it may even be used in my story for Friday.
