TJ Maxx confirms it's considering Cape

Posted Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 7:12 PM

We've been hearing rumors that a TJ Maxx store will open in the former Goody's location on the west side of Cape Girardeau.

At this point, T.J. Maxx will only confirm that the retail chain is "considering" Cape Girardeau.

Company Spokesperson Sonya Cosentini has informed me that T.J. Maxx is considering the area for a new store, but nothing is final at this time.

Last week I made several attempts to reach the owner of the former Goody's site Drury Land Development, Inc., but Mark Kohl, manager of real estate and development did not return my calls.

T.J. Maxx has more than 800 stores nation-wide and is known for offering name-brand clothing, accessories and home decor at discount prices.

Stay tuned to my blog for updates on this possible development. Also if you're hearing buzz about a businesses in Cape Girardeau, email me at mmiller@semissourian.com

I WOULD DEFINATELY BE INTERESTED IN OCCUPATION FOR TJMAX. I HAVE BEEN IN MANAGEMENT FOR 30 SOMETHING YEARS, & OWNED MY OWN STORE UNTIL MOVING. PLEASE, I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION THAT IS AVAILABLE. TO PDELINE@SBCGLOBAL.NET , I HAVE PREVIOUSLY EMAILED TJMAX A MEMO REGARDING THAT I THOUGHT THE CAPE AREA WOULD BE GREAT LOCATION FOR A TJMAX. THANK YOU, PAMELA DELINE.

Last month TJ Maxx announced they will locate a store in Carbondale. Paducah already has one.

Uh, let's not scare them away with freaky all caps postings...

TJ Maxx would be great. Thanks for the news.

Melissa, I heard that Dicks Sporting Goods was looking at the old Venture spot at the mall, & that Menards was thinking of opening a store in Cape.

Seriously Pam, and you wonder why they haven't responded to you? All caps, poor grammer, and the ooze of desperation. Yikes, it's enough to scare me away.

What about a Gordmans?

I really hope TJ Maxx comes to Cape! I stop at the Paducah location every time I am in that area and find a lot of great deals.

not to mention Pam spelled the company name wrong. Ouch, better hope HR doesn't see this when looking at your resume.

This would be MARVELOUS! I make it a point to go there each time I head to StL for anything.

Have a relative that works at Menards and the last time we talked about the possibility of Menards coming to MO., he was of the thought that they would probably concentrate on moving through IL. over this way to establish a presence. Let's focus on the thought that something new is coming to the area.

Either TJ Maxx or Marshall's (since they're owned by the same company) would be great for Cape. I've been to several of both, and there are never two stores that are quite the same as far as merchandise. You can always find a great deal in there.

TJMAXX and More or Mega Marshalls or Ross Dress for Less or so on.
