St. Louis, Mo., based Dirt Cheap will soon open a new store at 420 S. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau.
The company is well known for its billboards promising low prices along I-55 near St. Louis. Mo.
Dirt Cheap is a discount retailer of liquor, wine, beer and tobacco products.
Tom Kelsey, commercial broker with Lorimont Place, Ltd., said the company has leased the 6,783 square-foot building and plans to open a retail operation there.
Dirt Cheap has 12 locations in the St. Louis, Mo., area and one in Paducah, Ky.
The building was formerly occupied by Mid-America Power Equipment for many years and most recently by Nobbe John Deere.
The city of Cape Girardeau recently approved the liquor license for Dirt Cheap at this location.
Remodeling is currently underway and an opening date has not yet been set for the new store.
The first Dirt Cheap store was opened in 1993 in Fenton, Mo., with one employee and now has grown to 14 locations, Kelsey said.
The company is owned by the Paul Taylor family of St. Louis, Mo. They also own and operate shopping centers and the U-Gas convenience store chain with 16 locations primarily in the St. Louis, Mo., area.
