Last night I attended a public forum to discuss the economic benefits and environmental impacts of a new power plant in the Perryville Industrial Park.
It was my second trip up I-55 to Perryville since I started this job just about a month ago to report on a project that will bring new jobs to Perry County.
I also recently wrote about Gilster-Mary Lee constructing a new warehouse facility and adding two more cereal production lines along with about 50 new jobs.
It seems Perry County is fairing better than many areas as Missouri and the nation as we all try to dig our way out of this recession.
Perry County's unemployment rate at 7.7 percent in February is, lower than the state rate at 9.4 percent and the national average of 9.7 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
What's their secret to success? I'll be looking into it, so watch for a story in the next week or so.
