Cape Girardeau County's 1st District commissioner, Larry Bock, is wrapping up his 16th year in office this month.
Bock did not seek reelection. A reception is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday in the county administration office, 1 Barton Square, uptown Jackson. I've only known Comissioner Bock for about 18 months and am working on a story reviewing his career as a county official. What would you say his legacy will be? And if you have other comments about his career, call me at 388-3646 before noon on Monday. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

The only legacy he deserves is that he was the best yes man Gerald Jones could have ever hoped for. Other than that he was about as do nothing as anyone in Cape County governemnt coudl be, which is pretty much par for the course for this county.
A LEGACY??? Oh, pul-leeze! For a lousy sixteen years?
My Dad gave 'em 25 years---as a "grunt", if you will---on the road crew. Took more pride in his work than Bock EVER exhibited. Dad didn't request any "bells and whistles" when he retired. Didn't need any limelight.
Although, the best thing my Dad did pass down to me was how to keep one step ahead of the "Bocks'-n'-Jones'-types" of the commission.
Only the names change---the "methods" generally remain the same, unfortunately.....
A larger nonpaid commission supporting the growth and health of the entire county, including Cape Girardeau City, Jackson, Dutchtown, etc., will happen in the future. We need expertise, common sense, and leadership. That doesn't come anymore from someone who reads at the third grade level......................................
