Science Scholarship Encourages Underprivileged Kids to Study Science

Posted Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at 11:13 PM

Two southern Illinois students earn the Jason Lindsey Outstanding Science Student Scholarship.

  • Ethan Helton - B.S. in Biology - Anna, IL

  • Derek May - B.S. in Chemistry (Forensic Chemistry) - Centralia, IL

"In times like these and the many families that struggle to make college possible for their children, it is a relief to know that there are people like you willing to donate both money and time to see that many underprivileged kids get a chance at getting a higher education," says Ethan Helton.

The scholarship goes to a Southeast Missouri State University science major with a 3.0 Grade Point Average, and financial need, as indicated by the FAFSA. "This scholarship was created to encourage underprivileged students to pursue a degree in science," says Jason Lindsey with Hooked on Science.
