Experts say one in five people are scared of storms. The key to overcoming our fears is to first understand them. I'm teaming up with the Office of Extended and Continuing Education at Southeast Missouri State University to offer a severe weather workshop tailored toward parents and their kids on Saturday April 4th from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. This workshop will explain how storms work, educate parents and kids about severe weather safety and give parents tips on helping kids feel safe when severe weather hits the region.

On Saturday, March 15th I'll be teaching a class called "Critters and Creepy Crawlers." Kids will discover and explore their environment from a bugs-eye point of view!

Call the Extended and Continuing Education Office at Southeast Missouri State University at 573-986-6879 to register for the "Child Storm Phobias" workshop and the "Critters and Creepy Crawlers" class.

I've always hated tornadoes. While I have a very good idea of what causes it (used to work in the Ecology and Environment gallery at the St. Louis Science Center), it doesn't stop both my fascination and fear of them.
