Making a Difference...
Posted Tuesday, February 2, at 8:06 AM
The Hooked on Science team recently surveyed hundreds of educators from across the four state region to see if the Hooked on Science school program is inspiring students to be inquisitive about the world around them and to develop a long-term interest in science. Each educator completed an anonymous on-line survey after a Hooked on Science school program. The survey revealed the Hooked on Science school program increases student knowledge of science, increases student interest in science, and increases student attitude that science is "fun." The in-depth survey also revealed these facts about the Hooked on Science school program.

  • The Hooked on Science school program inspired students to reach their full potential in science by providing them with access to exciting, authentic, hands-on experiments, and a supportive environment.

  • The Hooked on Science school program provided activities and hands-on demonstrations designed to expand the student's understanding of scientific processes and concepts.

  • The Hooked on Science school program provided an informal, non-threatening atmosphere for scientific questioning and exploration.

Here is what educators had to say about the Hooked on Science school program.

  • "I thought it was a fantastic way to involve the children in a hands-on approach to science and to see science as something they can do and discover on their own with simple objects."

  • "It brings excitement for science."

  • "I thought that he explained the experiments so that the students could understand on their level. Mr. Lindsey did an excellent job incorporating the students with each activity he did. They loved it!!!"

  • "I think it was a great presentation. Jason did an awesome job!!"

  • "I really enjoyed the program. The kids had a great time and now see toilet paper in a whole different way!!"

  • "The students and staff at our school LOVED the Hooked on Science program! Students were engaged in learning through the fun activities offered by Jason Lindsey. It's a great program that all children should have the opportunity of the program."

  • "It was wonderfully executed and I enjoyed it as much as the students did! I would love to know of any other demonstrations you provide to schools."

  • "I support and encourage the Hooked on Science program. Students are excited about the activities and Jason explains each activity's scientific information in an understandable manner. However, he uses correct science terminology to assist in developing student understanding and to increase their vocabulary."

  • "Very informative and entertaining. Well presented and well worth the money spent. Would recommend to all schools."

It turns out forecasters don't control the weather...and this winter storm proves my point. Forecasting models continue to disagree on the timing and snowfall amounts with this weather system. Bottom line, snow is hard to forecast. Right now, the four state region will see the best accumulation of snow tonight. Here's what I'm expecting when it comes to snowfall totals...

A big winter storm is scheduled to push into the four state region tonight. Forecasting models continue to argue about the arrival and snowfall totals. I'm thinking the storm will arrive after 12 a.m. on Friday and will give us a good dose of snow. Here's what I'm thinking when it comes to snowfall totals...

A ridge of high pressure in control of our weather will shift east allowing a southerly flow to push into the four state region, which will warm us up to the middle 40's by Thursday. Our next weather maker is scheduled to arrive on Thursday. A cold front will attempt to push through fizzling out on Friday and for now only increasing clouds. Listen to my forecasts on WBEL 88.5 FM and WGCF 89.3 FM each day. Go to http://www.hookedonscience.org/weather for weather details...

Our next weather system is scheduled to push into the four state region on Wednesday evening creating a winter mess. Although, forecasting models are taking the weather maker north of the region, I'm still expecting a heavy band of snow to push through between 12 a.m. ...

Mother Nature has a special treat for those brining in the New Year. Its called a Blue Moon and it hasn't happened in almost twenty years. The last time there was a blue moon on New Years Eve was in 1990; the next one won't come again until 2028. Here's a peek at the science behind a Blue Moon. Go to http://www.hookedoncience.org for experiments that might get you and your family "Hooked on Science."...
