*The 97th General Assembly of Missouri officially began its First Regular Session with the swearing-in ceremony Wednesday. It is my hope that many of you will be able to visit the state Capitol sometime between now and mid-May to observe first-hand how the legislators discuss, debate and ultimately decide on issues that affect all Missourians.
*Committee assignments were established this week, and I have been appointed to the following: Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on Health Insurance and member of Appropriations: Health, Mental Health and Social Services, Higher Education and Professional Registration and Licensing.
I'm honored and looking forward to work as Vice Chair of the Health Insurance Committee. It is sure to be a "hot spot" and assigned many significantly complex bills considering the controversial issue of expanding the state's Medicaid program and effects of the Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as "ObamaCare". I work tirelessly to thwart the negative impacts of both.
*January 14 will be another day of celebration at the state Capitol as the inauguration of Governor Nixon and other state elected officials takes place. It is an all-day event to which the public is invited.
