2013 Legislative Session will begin January 9Posted Thursday, December 6, 2012, at 3:15 PM
*IN MEMORY OF PETER MYERS -- He was a good friend. I learned a great deal from him, including how to slow down when it comes to making important decisions. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never judged people. It was his faith that made him a person of strong, good character. He will be missed.
*I pre-filed two bills Monday, December 3rd. One is a re-filing of my 2012 HB 1355 which provides for fair pay to Physical Therapists in all care-venues. In other words, it requires health carriers to reimburse a physical therapist in the same amounts as paid to a licensed physician therapist for rendering the same services regardless of the setting or venue of treatment.
The other is a bill that gives county commissions the authority to set and impose a fine for violation of a No Burn Order/Notice.
*On or about December 17, I will be filing two more bills: The first one I'll mention here will not be popular with many of my legislative colleagues, but then I wasn't elected to gain new friends. The bill will eliminate state pensions for General Assembly members beginning January 1, 2014. With State revenue shortages continuing, we as public servants to the Missouri taxpayers should take responsibility to find ways to ease the burden.
The second is also controversial -but with a different group of people- and will allow Missourians to vote regarding labor organizations. That is, whether employees should have the right to refuse to join a labor organization, pay dues, fees, assessments and other charges.
The 2013 Legislative Session will officially begin January 9 when legislators of the 97th General Assembly will be sworn in during a ceremony at the State Capitol.
