Emerson will be busy this week

U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson has a busy schedule of events in Cape Girardeau this week. That might be expected from a candidate seeking re-election, but I guess these are all official functions because all the announcements came from her Congressional office, not the campaign.
First up, Emerson will be presented with the Legislative Achievement Award from the American Association of Retired Persons, AARP, at her district office in the new Rush H. Limbaugh Sr. Federal Courthouse. The presentation will take place at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and will recognize Emerson's work on drug re-importation from Canada, direct negotiation of drug prices for Medicare Part D and hunger issues. On Wednesday, Emerson will speak at noon to the Cape Girardeau Lions Club at the Elks Lodge near Center Junction. Thursday holds two events, with Emerson touring the SEMO Allliance for Disability Independence at 9:30 a.m., followed by a visit to a Southeast Missouri State University class on political reporting at 3:20 p.m. Emerson will cap her week by attending the Open House of the Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence on Friday. The open house begins at 5:30 p.m. at No. 69 Doctor's Park, Suite C. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Wouldn't it be nice if Ms. Emerson would come to her district at times other than during the election cycle! Her on-going residence in St. Louis, rather than in her district, has kept her far from the needs of those of us who live in the 12th poorest district IN THE COUNTRY! Either come home to get to know our needs, Ms. Emerson, or let someone who lives in the district represent us.
I for one am glad that Mrs. Gladney will take a few moments to really get to know her Congressional District, the 12th POOREST Congressional District in America.
Of course, it would really help matters if Mrs. Gladney had ever really lived here. She was born September 16th, 1950 in the Washington, D.C. area. She married the lobbyist, turned politican, Bill Emerson in 1975 when she was only 24. Bill, was 12 years older than she.
Mrs. Gladney, married Ron Gladney, a St.Louis labor attorney and rather big Democratic Party contributor in 2000. Apparently, for some reason, Mrs. Gladney has refused to take Ron's last name, officially, and prefers to be known as Joann Emereson. If I were Gladney, I would be greatly peeved that my soon to be 58 year old wife refused to take my last name. If Joann didn't like the name Gladney, a two syllable name, compared to the three syllable name of Emerson, why didn't she at least go back to her original maiden name of Hermann?
Oh well, this is all about Joann Emerson (Gladney) not having ever lived in this congressional district. She has a beautiful mansion in the Washington, D.C. area, she has a beautiful home in St. Louis with Ron Gladney, and she has a rather nice home at the Lake of the Ozarks. In her district, where is her home? An old refrigerator box, which she has converted into a squat somewhere in the downtown area of Cape, no doubt.
Romances rarely survive a long distance situation. In politics, it should be no different. Our representative, ought to actually live in the district that he, or, she is alleged to represent.
What is the deal that Joann "Gladney" aka Joann Emerson refuses to take her husband's last name? How humiliating for Mr. Gladney.
Is it too much to ask, that Joann Gladney actually live here?
"...seeking re-election".
Good one Rudy!
I don't know where the above folks get their information, but Jo Ann Emerson lives right here in Cape Girardeau. I should know, I have done work on her home, HERE IN CAPE!
From my own dealings with Jo Ann I can tell you that she is the most down to Earth person I could have imagined. I really didn't know what to expect when I got the work order to go to her home. Its not everyday that I get called to my congresswoman's house for work. Jo Ann greeted me with a smile and was nothing but nice the entire time I worked on her home. I wish everyone that I worked with would be as nice as Jo Ann was to me.
Jo Ann Emerson is #1 in my book.
Earlier this year my son was serving in Iraq and my husband died unexpectedly in a farm accident. I knew that I had to get my son home for his father's funeral but I had no idea where to turn. A friend suggested that I call Jo Ann Emerson. I called Jo Ann's office on a Sunday and my call was returned within a few hours. Jo Ann cut through the many layers of government to get my son home for his father's funeral. I cannot tell you what it meant to have my son at home and with our family. Jo Ann personally got involved with my family and we will forever be greatful for her kindness.
Jo Ann will ALWAYS be #1 in our book!
The people that posted the negative and false information about Jo Ann should pick up a newspaper now and again. I am always reading about things she is doing in her district and it isn't just in Cape but in all 28 counties she represents and it isn't just in election years. She spends more time in her district than any other member of Congress I have ever heard of. She is a proud resident of Cape Girardeau and a true advocate for Southern Missouri. Thank God she is working for us!

So, according to you, "Joann Gladney" aka Joann Emerson lives "right here in Cape."
How is that? When does she have time to "live in Cape?" She may come to the district to glad hand, and she does a great job of meet and greet, but as for living in this district, she does not. She has a fabulous mansion in D.C., she has the Ron Gladney home in St. Louis, and she has the home at the Lake of the Ozarks. Living in Cape, surely you jest.
