When I saw him at the SEMO Labor Picnic, County Comissioner Jay Purcell didn't want to talk about Cape Girardeau Mayor Jay Knudtson's harsh commentary about his methods as a commissioner.
But later that evening, Purcell sent me the following e-mail: "I am disappointed that Mayor Knudtson can not put aside any animosity that he has towards me to do the job he was elected to do. I however will continue to work on behalf of the citizens and will not let petty personal feelings get in the way of who I work with. Thank You, Jay Purcell" Read what the mayor said and decide for yourself. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Knudtson is no white knight.
How appropriate that the latest episode of this whole cartoon adventure is a grownup version of "I'm rubber and you're glue..." from *** Wee's Playhouse.
Mr. Purcell is championing the cause of clean, honest government carried out for the good of all the citizens--by employing devious tactics. No matter what is exposed in the tapes on the part of those Mr. Purcell deceived, his conduct qualifies him for the same hog wallow. Foul means never justify high-minded ends. That is what Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin believed.
Rock Finch has his hands full--presenting himself as the candidate of sterling character and persistent goodwill. Will he be able to live up to it in that environment?
Hey Rudi- A fearless and persistent press is the is the drover's whip that keeps the horse and cart going down the middle of the road. The Missourian has long ***********--even ignored--the behind-the-scenes realities of local political issues. Kudos to you and to publishers for doing your job!
