Welcome to the new semissourian.com Web site. The look might be quite a shock, but over the next few days, we hope everything will fall into place for you.

Periodically in this space, I hope to answer questions about what we're doing at the Southeast Missourian…or simply to share thoughts I have about the Cape-Jackson area, the media business or a myriad of other issues.

If you have any questions, let 'em fly, and I'll do my best. Some of you may even remember when I used to write a column entitled "Fact or Fiction," where I tracked down answers to even the most obscure questions. My time is a bit short for that now, but I would be happy to share information about the inner-workings and strategy of the Missourian, if you're interested.

One final note. You might have noticed that the new design of the Web site gives prominent position to online columnists - or bloggers. If you're

interested in writing an online column, please don't hesitate to raise your hand. You can do that by contacting online editor Matt Sanders. His email address is: msanders@semissourian.com. Or better yet, just click here.

Meanwhile, I'd love to hear what you think about the redesigned semissourian.com. How do you like it? What else would you like to see here?

Jon K. Rust

I like the new look. I am a big fan of the online newspaper. I like being able to go and post my reply to storys of interest to me. And not just sit and yell at the paper in my hand. Sometimes it is just nice to be able to go and say how great something was. Your online site allows me to do that. I'm very excited about the interactive parts of it. The video reports you guys post are very cool also. Great Job! It's good to see the Missourian move into the new online world.

Thanks Timexx. We know that the ability to make story comments is a popular functionality. It can be fun to do -- and fun to read. Also, it expands the community discussion about important issues.

One advantage of our new commentary system is that obscene comments are now automatically rejected.

We're still working some kinks out, though. Our time-stamp is not working quite how we want, so it's been turned off for the time being. That should return shortly.

As for video reports, you'll be seeing more and more of these. Thanks for your kind words.
