Cape County Getting Rid of Dummies;
Officials Staying, Books Going
Cape Girardeau County is holding a surplus property auction on their website and lot number seven intrigued me.
It "contains four of the instructional 'for Dummies' books."
It then lists 7 books and shows a photo of them.
I guess the county is hanging on to its "Counting for Dummies" book.
I'm sure that as soon as someone in the County offices find out about it, the error will get corrected, but in the meantime it made me laugh. I understand, though. Typos happen.
Now, I could make light of the fact that the County Information Technology department is getting rid of a bunch of basic computer skills books. That's kind of ironic. It's comparable to having an operation and the surgeon starts thumbing through a copy of the reference book "Gray's Anatomy."
However, I've bought some similar type books over the years - the Dummy books, not the one on anatomy. They're actually pretty well-written and typically do a nice job covering a given technical topic.
I was a little surprised that the County was getting rid of "The Internet for Dummies" book. News reports I've read over the past year gave me the impression that the Presiding Commissioner could use that book.
Perhaps, he's done with it.
I wonder if the chapter discussing web cams is torn out?
While I don't want any of the books in this lot, I am planning on bidding on the other book lot in the County's auction. Lot #85 has some great titles:
- "Easements for Dummies"
- "The Idiots Guide to Covert Recording"
- "Chip 'n Dale Talk Chip 'n Seal: Volume 7 of the Walt Disney Guide to Road Building Series" (circa 1953)
- "Pamela Anderson in Pictures: Photographs by Stephen Wayda"
- "I'm OK, You're OK"
Those 6 books are mine, so no one better bid against me.
