Why I've Never Been A Cow:
One Man's Enduring Love of Leather Coats
I'm not sure if reincarnation exists, but if it does, I'm pretty sure I've never been a cow in some past life.
I love my leather coats too much.
I never had a leather coat growing up. Wal-Mart and Sears didn't sell them back then.
But then I went to college and one day I stopped at an army surplus / pawn shop that was located in downtown Cape at the corner of Broadway and Spanish. It's a lot now.
They had an old used motorcycle jacket that was in great shape. It was love at first sight. It didn't matter that I didn't have a motorcycle or had any interest in buying a motorcycle or even riding a motorcycle.
But I know that if I did have a motorcycle and happened to wipe out, I would want to be wearing that jacket. It's a beast, weighing over 9 pounds. I'm not sure what cow it came from, but I imagine it was old bull with a bad disposition.
I love that jacket. It still creaks when I wear it, even after 20 years.
Not long after acquiring that jacket, I saw some faux bomber jackets at a store in West Park Mall.
These were patterned after jackets worn by aviators in World War II complete with "authentic" bomber patches. I had to have one. I guess they did a good job on them since a gentleman once asked me if I'd gotten the jacket from my grandfather.
And so my leather jacket collection grew. I got a couple more bombers. My wife bought me a nice black one for Christmas one year. I got another one for my 15th anniversary at work.
I'm up to about 6 or 7. I think I have enough for now.
Maybe in my next life, I will be reincarnated as a bottle of saddle soap and a nice shammy.
It would be appropriate.
